Any homeowner would want their house to look as luxurious as ever and that usually starts with picking the right kind of material. As much as possible, homeowners would like to have natural construction materials used for their home. However, these can be very expensive especially if they are of the highest quality. Others natural materials on the other hand, are not as abundant as they were before.
Enter synthetic materials, and though people have a preconception about having to imitate products, synthetic materials are the real deal. Not only are they made with utmost focus on quality, but they really look like the real thing. In addition, you can choose the kind of patterns that they material creates because it is synthetic; man-made.
Once you have decided to buy the material, the problem now is how to install the laminate flooring. Of course, the option of making someone else do it for you are there, but sometimes, it is also good to experience installing it on your own. At least, if you do not like it, then you can just hire and if you do like the experience, you will be able to save money.
If you are planning to do it yourself, you should know that the first thing that you should be doing is to prepare your floor, but before this, you need to make sure that you let the laminate flooring boards acclimate first by putting the packages inside the room where it is going to be installed. It is important that the boards are used to the temperature first so that shrinkage is only minimal.
Make sure that you are going to clean the floor first before you apply a moisture barrier, which is basically a plastic lining which will go between the floor and the laminate flooring. Make sure that the tape that you use to stick the barrier to the floor is moisture resistant as well. In addition, if the floor where you are going to apply the boards is made of concrete, it is advisable that you extend the barrier, one to two inches off the floor.
The barrier is necessary in order to prevent rapid deterioration of the laminate flooring’s material.
You should also think about placing padding on top of the barrier. This is to prevent rocks and other smaller items from causing dimples on the boards once applied.
After 48 hours has passed since the boards’ acclimation, always remember to always start at the corner of the room – do the first row first. Do not forget to put spacers in between the boards which are not very difficult to have because they are also sold in stores. You also the option of making one, just make sure that its specifications include thickness of 3/16 inches to 3/8 inches, L-shaped, and a foot long. Place the first row of laminate flooring at the longest side of the room.
Shorten the first board of the second row to show a dynamic look. This will make the floor look offset, and a pattern can be seen. You might need to cut some of the boards in order to accommodate the space that is provided by the room space as you reach the end of the installation. This also applies with rooms which are shaped in a unique way.
Use a table saw in cutting the boards. This will help in assuring a straight cut because of its stability and the arm application that holds it down to the table.
A luxurious floor is great, but having to make your own house can make the entire experience more memorable especially with the effect that a laminate floor is able to show.
